April 6, 2007 23:13 Hours: A vacant dwelling at Route 30 & West Taunton Avenue was the scene of a late night fire that kept fire crews busy until early morning. 2300 arrived to report a 30X50 1 1/2 story vacant dwelling with heavy fire throughout the structure. A crew from Ladder 22 "opened-up" the vacant house and then assisted with fire suppression. Firefighters went into a defensive fire attack as conditions quickly worsened. No injuries were reported. March 19, 2007 23:24 Hours: West Berlin firefighters responded to 423 Whitehorse Pike in Waterford Township for a "ALL HANDS" fire in a vacant building. 2300 arrived to report that he had heavy fire showing in a 1 1/2 story 40X50 wood framed building. West Berlin crews quickly went to work to "open-up" the structure and assist with fire suppression. Two 2 1/2" and one 1 3/4" handlines were put into service. No injuries were reported. February 8, 2007 11:37 Hours: West Berlin firefighters were called into Gibbsboro for an "All Hands" garage fire at 69 Holly Road. 68-10 arrived to report heavy fire in a detached garage. Ladder 22 responded and immediately went to work with a 2 1/2" "Blitz Line" pulled off of Voorhees Engine 66-31. A total of three 2 1/2" and four 1 3/4" handlines were used on the job. The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the blaze. No injuries were reported.

 
     
 
 
     
 

Engine 222 Responds To 2 Alarm Winslow Fire

 
 

 
 

February 7, 2007 22:03 Hours: West Berlin fire crews responded to a two alarm house fire in the Waterford section of Winslow Township. Chief 2500 arrived on location to find heavy fire on the second floor of a 35X50, 2.5 story dwelling at 243 Waterford Road off the White Horse Pike. While responding on a cover assignment to Atco Station 23-2, Engine 222 was quickly redirected to go straight into the job. West Berlin crews assisted with fire suppression and overhaul. Numerous tankers were special called due to the location of the home. No injuries were reported.

 
     
 
 
     
 

Lindenwold Apartment Fire Goes To 2 Alarms

 
 

 
 

February 1, 2007 18:30 Hours: West Berlin firefighters were dispatched with Ladder 222 into Lindenwold on the 1st alarm of a 2 alarm apartment fire. The address was Greentree Apartments at 101 Gibbsboro Road. Chief 6300 was first to arrive and reported smoke showing from a two story garden style apartment. That was upgraded to heavy fire showing in the 2nd floor apartment with 1 occupant unaccounted for. The 2nd alarm was struck as fire began to burn through the roof. Firefighters quickly went into a defensive fire attack with two master streams going into operation from Clementon and Laurel Springs fire departments. January 22, 2007 17:05 Hours: West Berlin firefighters were dispatched into Voorhees Township for a building fire at Binder Machinery, 145 Route 73 South. Chief Jackson arrived to find heavy fire in a 40' X 100' warehouse. Ladder 222 was first due into the job and led off with a 2 1/2" blitz line followed by two 1 3/4" handlines. Voorhees Engine 66-31 was the 2nd due engine and supplied Ladder 222. West Berlin crews also "opened up" the building. There was a partial collapse of the structure during firefighting operations. January 14, 2007 18:34 Hours: A passing motorist phoned into The Camden County Communications Center a fully involved house fire at Cooper and Hopewell Roads. Taskforce 22 was dispatched for a dwelling fire at that location. Deputy Chief Schaffer arrived to find heavy fire on the 1st and 2nd floors of a 3 story vacant dwelling. Berlin Boro Ladder 2114 was first due on the job and led off with a 2 1/2" blitz line followed by two 1 3/4" handlines. A water shuttle was established to supply 3200 ft of 5" supply line due to hydrant locations. No injuries were reported. The fire was turned over to Evesham Fire, Burlington County after it was determined to be in their local upon arrival of the first due companies.

December 20, 2006 19:23 Hours: A 15' X 30' construction trailer was totally destroyed by fire Wednesday evening. Taskforce 22 was dispatched to Bowman Construction at 551 Cooper Road for a building fire. Captain Strain arrived to find the trailer heavily involved. Ladder 211 was first due on the job and led off with the main to knock down the fire along with two 2" handlines. A water shuttle was set-up to supply the ladder with engines 2221, 2111, 2112 and Squad 232. The trailer was being used to store PVC piping and fittings. No injuries were reported. December 6, 2006 03:40 Hours: West Berlin firefighters responded with Ladder 222 to a early morning dwelling fire in Waterford Township. Chief 2301 arrived to find a heavily involved attached garage at 702 Linda Court and immediately struck the "All Hands". Engine 232 led off with a 2 1/2" hoseline to the first floor as Squad 232 stretched a 2" handline to the second floor. West Berlin fire crews arrived to vent the building and assist Atco fire personnel with fire suppression. No injuries were reported.

 
     
 
 
     
 

Cooper Road MVA Leaves 3 Hurt, 1 Seriously

 
 

 
 

November 12, 2006 17:25 Hours: Three people were hurt, one seriously when a SUV left the road and collided with a tree on Cooper Road just before Hopewell Road. Captain Strain arrived to find a female passenger heavily entrapped in the vehicle. Chief Jackson and Rescue 222 then arrived and rescue crews immediately went to work to remove the roof and passenger door after stabilizing the vehicle. The female passenger was transported to Cooper Trauma Center in Camden. The driver and second passenger were treated for minor injuries.

November 12, 2006 03:44 Hours: A pickup truck failed to negotiate the new Berlin circle construction project and crashed after taking out a light standard. It was estimated that the driver was traveling at speeds in excess of 100+ MPH. The driver was partially ejected from the truck and managed to pull himself from the wreck as rescue crews arrived. He suffered multiple serious injuries and was transported to Cooper Trauma Center in Camden. No other injuries were reported.

October 22, 2006 21:15 Hours: West Berlin firefighters responded to 479 Centennial Boulevard in Voorhees Township as part of Taskforce 66-3. Chief 66-30 arrived to report heavy fire through the roof of a vacant commercial structure and requested the "All Hands". Rescue 222 responded on the initial dispatch as the F.A.S.T. company. West Berlin firefighters were quickly reassigned to fire suppression followed by a special call for Engine 222 and Brush 222. 4th Early Morning Suspicious Fire Hits Home Depot

 
 

 
 

October 10, 2006 01:30 hours: West Berlin firefighters awoke to another suspicious fire behind the Home Depot store on Walker Avenue. This would be the fourth fire that appears to be intentionally set. It took fire crews 40 minutes to extinquish the blaze that was full of wooden pallets and piles of cardboard boxes. September 1, 2006 05:04 Hours: West Berlin firefigters responded with Engine 2221 as part of Structural Taskforce "E" to the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township on the 3rd alarm of a 5 alarm apartment building fire at Fountain Village Apartments in the 1500 block of Little Gloucester Road. August 28, 2006 21:45 Hours: West Berlin firefighters were dispatched to a second 3 alarm fire in two days in Waterford Township. Ladder 2224 and Rescue 2225 responded in on the 1st and 2nd alarms. The vacant building was home to Something Special Florists at 276 White Horse Pike and was vacant for some time. Fire crews were met with heavy fire conditions upon arrival on the division "A" side of the building. Firefighters were able to stop the spread of fire into the connected exposure building. August 26, 2006 03:03 Hours: West Berlin firefighters responded into Waterford Township on the 1st and 2nd alarms of this 3 alarm townhouse fire at 2595 Todd Court off of Whispering Pines Drive. Chief Jankowski arrived to strike the all hands followed immediately by the 2nd alarm after there were reports that the residents could not be accounted for. Fire crews encountered heavy fire conditions and a partial collapse of the division "C" side of units #1 and #2 upon arrival. August 20, 2006 16:20 Hours: West Berlin Engine 2221 was dispatched as part of Structure Taskforce "E" to 301 West Clinton Avenue in Oaklyn to help battle a 5 alarm structure fire that burned out of control for 5 hours. Once on scene they were quickly redirected to join Pipeline Taskforce "2" to supply water to the many master streams in service. April 6, 2006 Firefighters were awakened at 0222 hours for a fire at 166 Walnut Avenue in Berlin Township. Chief Joseph Jackson, Jr. arrived to report the single family dwelling was heavily involved and immediately struck the all hands. EMS transported one resident to the hospital for burns. Rescue 2225 Called To Assist At Trench Rescue

 
 

 
 

August 25, 2005 Shortly after 9:30AM firefighters were dispatched to Cross-Keys Rd near New Freedom Rd in Pine Hill NJ for a rescue assignment. Camden County Fire Radio notified Pine Hill Fire Chief Dick Wright that there was a man trapped in a construction ditch, a rescue Box was filled out for Specialized Trench Rescue companies. Chief Wright found one worker trapped up to his waist 22' down in a hole. The worker was conscious and alert and not injured but trapped waist deep. Deputy Chief Mike Scardino of Winslow Twp. was put to work as rescue coordinator. Firefighters worked hand in hand to stabilize the excavation hole. Firefighters hooked a harness up to the man. It took about 1 1/2 hours to free him, he was transported to a Cooper hospital by EMS units to be checked out. Companies working at rescue were Winslow Twp, Albion,Sicklerville, Battalion 2, 2502,2501, Waterford Twp,.Gloucester City Rescue, Blackwood, LambsTerrace, Erial, Chews Landing. West Berlin Assists The Boro On Delwood Avenue

 
 

 
 

West Berlin firefighters responded into Berlin Boro for a fire in a single family dwelling in the Woods development. The fire on Delwood Avenue started as a grease fire in the kitchen and quickly spread as the residents tried to extinquish the blaze with a garden hose. Two Dead In Early Morning Berlin Boro House Fire

 
 

 
 

March 26, 2005 00:25 Hours: A Saturday morning fire has left two dead in Berlin Boro. Firefighters rushed to save a family trapped in their house. They rescued a husband and wife. But their son and his girlfriend did not survive. The son was found in a bedroom on the third floor. She died trying to jump to safety leaping out of the home. It happened around midnight on the 2 hundred block of Berlin Cross Keys Road in Berlin Boro. Investigators haven't figured out what caused this terrible fire. West Berlin firefighters responded to this multiple alarm fire to assist the Boro as well as departments from Winslow Township, Lindenwold and Clementon.

 
     
 
 
     
 

2nd Fire In A Month Destroys Katherine Avenue Home

 
 

 
 

1/21/05 An all hands fire destroyed a home on Katherine Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find the dwelling heavily involved and burning through the roof. Ice and temperatures in the teens hampered firefighting efforts as firefighters had to free a frozen fire hydrant. The home was currently under renovations from a previous fire not more than a month before. Firefighters went into a defensive fire attack as conditions quickly deteriorated.

10/31/04 A pickup left the roadway on Route 73 Northbound striking a utility pole and snapping it in half. The vehicle rolled over several times landing on it's side and trapping the driver.
